Tent shelter with warm lighting

A Homeless Thanksgiving

A story of resilience, found family, and the bonds that hold us together

The Story

Devon, a fifty-year-old gay man, and Melanie, a thirty-year-old lesbian, form an unlikely friendship while experiencing homelessness. They share a tent and learn to be resourceful in their harsh environment, supporting each other through daily struggles.

Their world shifts when Joel, a street-wise sixteen-year-old, claims the tent as his own. After an initial conflict, Devon and Melanie not only become parents to Joel but also students—learning survival techniques from his years of street experience.

Together, they discover the power of intergenerational relationships and create a family bound not by blood, but by love and shared struggle. By Thanksgiving, they have forged an action plan to lift themselves out of homelessness and celebrate their newfound gratitude for one another.
